Is this the beginning of a new wave of fitness events? By now if you haven’t seen the word HYROX in the fitness industry you’ve been under a rock!
What is HYROX? (And Why You Should Try It!)
If you’ve been seeing HYROX pop up everywhere and wondering what all the hype is about, let’s clear it up: it’s one of the most accessible, fun, and repeatable fitness challenges out there—and honestly, it might be exactly what you’ve been looking for.
You don’t need to be an elite athlete.
You don’t need crazy technical skills.
You don’t need to train for years just to be “ready” for it.
HYROX is for everyone.
Whether you’re just starting out in fitness or you’ve been training for years and want a new challenge, this race will push you—but in the best way possible.
It’s a chance to train with purpose, push your limits, and experience the buzz of competition—without feeling like you’re “not fit enough” to take part.
Sound good? Let’s break it all down.
What actually is HYROX?
HYROX is a fitness race that blends running and functional movements, making it the perfect mix of strength and endurance.
It’s structured, repeatable, and scalable to all fitness levels—meaning you can train, improve, and measure your progress over time. (I have been out on the course with people walking and talking through to people running mindblowing speeds)
Every HYROX event follows the same format, so whether you’re in your hometown or competing internationally, it’s always a familiar challenge:
1km Run → SkiErg
1km Run → Sled Push
1km Run → Sled Pull
1km Run → Burpee Broad Jumps
1km Run → Rowing
1km Run → Farmer’s Carry
1km Run → Sandbag Lunges
1km Run → Wall Balls
It’s hard but rewarding, and the best part?
You’re racing against yourself, with the energy of hundreds of people around you pushing you to the finish line.
Who is HYROX For? (Spoiler: Everyone!)
One of the best things about HYROX? Anyone can do it.
It’s designed so that absolute beginners and seasoned athletes can compete side by side—each testing their own limits at their own level.
New to fitness?
HYROX is a great entry point into strength training. You’ll improve your running, build confidence with functional movements, and develop full-body strength without complicated lifts or technical skills.
Been training for years?
HYROX is a chance to test yourself in a structured way. Whether it’s improving your time, going heavier, or tackling the Pro division, there’s always a way to level up.
There are also different divisions to suit your experience and goals:
✅ Open Division – Perfect for first-timers who want to complete the race at their own pace.
✅ Pro Division – Heavier weights, tougher challenge—designed for more experienced athletes.
✅ Doubles & Relays – Not quite ready to go solo? Team up with a friend or share the race between a group.
You don’t have to be the fittest person in the room—you just have to show up and give it your best.
Why HYROX is Different (And So Addictive!)
It’s repeatable. Unlike obstacle races or mud runs, HYROX follows the same format every time—so you can train, compete, and track your progress over multiple events.
It’s a mix of strength & endurance. No more choosing between running and lifting—HYROX does both. You get stronger, fitter, and more well-rounded as an athlete.
It’s an individual race, but a community event. Even though you’re competing against yourself, you’re surrounded by others pushing through the same challenge. The atmosphere is unreal.
It’s fun. Yes, it’s tough—but it’s also exciting, rewarding, and totally addictive once you’ve done your first one.
How to Train for HYROX
HYROX training is straightforward but effective—you’re building a mix of strength, endurance, and work capacity.
Strength & Power – Think sled pushes, carries, lunges, and wall balls to build full-body strength.
Running Efficiency – If you’re not used to running longer distances, you’ll want to build up endurance and pacing.
Work Capacity – HYROX is a grind—interval training, circuits, and high-intensity efforts will help you sustain effort throughout the race.
Mental Grit – Pushing through fatigue is half the battle—the more you train your mind, the better you’ll perform on race day.
The best part? You don’t need a fancy program. If you’re already doing functional fitness or CrossFit-style workouts, you’re halfway there.
At our gym, we run PR-YROX training sessions, so if you’re curious, just ask a coach—we’ll help you build up the skills and fitness you need to feel ready for race day.
